Respect People’s Time Why & How

When I look around, without a doubt, whether they know it or not, people are scrambling for every second they can save and are pissed off at every second they lose. Because of the internet and with mobile phones at scale, we live in a 24/7 – 365 world.
Let me ask you a question. When was the last time your phone did not load the video or article fast enough and so you quit the process all together? – which because you clicked the content, it leaves an inaccurate impression or CTR. Or the last time someone called you and you got slightly annoyed that they couldn’t have just texted instead? Or, lets just set it straight, the amount of bull crap TV commercials that interrupt your show to sell you their stuff with a 20-30 second clip? – and as we all know the second that commercial comes on, with the exception of the Super Bowl, we grab our phones and head to Facebook, Snapchat, or Instagram.
If there’s anything you can do right for your audience it is to save them time. – A few tips to save people’s time on Facebook:
When on any social media platform, create content native to that platform. Don’t make your content look like a banner ad for a web 1.0 website, or a pop up for your an email subscription list. Just my opinion, but how many people are excited for the next pop-up ad to hit their screen and be too large to x-out of?
On Facebook, use Instant Articles if you blog! This will dramatically reduce friction which is the load time to show the article. This eliminates any friction from the user to the content.
Also on Facebook, if you make videos, embed the actual video file on Facebook itself and not a link out to your YouTube page. The amount of friction this process takes steals a boatload of time from people. Plus it looks horrible as a Facebook post.
Facebook video can be a whole new article, but Facebook video is the leading medium being consumed on the platform. Facebook itself says their news feed is designed to show more video than other posts why? Because it saves people time to consume the content. (My quick DIY Tips are in Video Format)
These are some of the things that publishers can do to massively save people’s time when they want to their audience to consume their content. There’s more ways so always be studying the consumer’s behavior to find ways to save time.
